After completing Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Business Administration degrees from Acadia University, Dave has been with Scotia Wealth Management for the past 26 years.
As a licensed Portfolio Manager, Dave has the discretion to make investment decisions on a client’s behalf should a client desire to fully delegate day-to-day portfolio management. He is one of very few Scotia Wealth Management advisors across Canada to have this capability.
He is also a Certified Financial Planner licensed by the Financial Planners Standards Council and he holds senior professional designations (CIM, FCSI) from the Canadian Securities Institute and the internationally recognized Investment Management Consultants Association (CIMA) and Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (TEP).
Dave is an active member in a number of industry-related organizations; IMCA, STEP, and The Canadian Institute of Financial Planners (CIFPs) and served two terms on the national FCSI Advisory Council.
Wealth Professional magazine has included Dave in its list of Top 50 Advisors in Canada five straight years; 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018. He was honoured to be voted best Financial Advisor (2015) and best Investment Company (2016) in the Valley Harvester Reader Choice Awards.
Dave has spent time teaching introductory and advanced courses in investment management and finance. He has taught introductory investment courses to consumers for the Investor Learning Center of Canada, Professional Financial Planning to industry colleagues for the Canadian Securities Institute, and Investment Analysis to business students for the School of Business at Acadia University.
A past director of the Apple Blossom Festival and the Central Kings Community Health Board, Dave has served on the Kentville Planning Advisory Committee, Kentville Community Development Committee, the Board of Kentville Development Corporation Limited, and has acted as Co-Chair of the Kings Citizens Coalition and as Treasurer for the Kings RDA.
Dave is currently a Director for the Valley Regional Enterprise Network, Scotia Solar Energy and the Annapolis Valley Chamber of Commerce, and is also Treasurer for the Kings Historical Society. Dave is a Co-Founder of the Bluenose BoSox Brotherhood, a group of 350+ Red Sox baseball fans from Nova Scotia. Dave lives in Kentville with his wife Melissa. He is an avid sports fan and enjoys following the ups and downs of his favorite Boston Red Sox. Skiing in the winter and fishing in the summer are leisurely activities he enjoys when time permits.
